Can someone advise on effective learning material for OPNET? I don't believe the online tutorial is very effective.

Thanks.

You can try doing the projects which are done in the IT Guru Academical Edition.

File->Open (project) and chose among all the projects...These projects have some "readme" documents that will help you to understand the use of IT Guru.

you can also try going to:
http://www.opnet.com/services/university/lab_manuals.html

and doing the tutorials titled "Business Data Networks & Telecommunications--Fourth Edition" and "Security Labs in IT Guru Academic Edition" (is in english, not spanish, there's a mistake).
These last tutorials are really useful.

I agree that there could be more instructive information given about the basics of using this software. Many people are learning it for the first time. So far the instructions in the lab book have been wonderful if you take your time do I very slowly and one step at a time so you set up everything exactly as the book said, it is best to work on it alittle up to where you save your work then take a break that way you don't get tied of it and over look somthing.

Maybe the thing to note is that IT Guru Academic Edition is a learning tool for networking concepts. Typically labs are created by instructors or textbook writers and the "users" of such labs use IT Guru Academic Edition as a tool to learn about networks and network protocols.
If you are learning the product in order to construct a lab or new textbook, then you can perhaps get help from OPNET staff. If you are using the academic edition, the point is to use the product as a learning tool for your classes or in conjunction with learning material in a textbook; it's less about learning the ins and outs of OPNET and how to best use it -- as the commercial software has evolved since the version that is the academic version. If you want to use this as a springboard for learning the commercial OPNET IT Guru, there are probably better ways to go such as training classes.
